Fans of Beyond the Gates are about to see a new face step into Garland Memorial Hospital, and it looks like she will waste no time shaking things up. Actress Cecelia Specht is joining the CBS daytime drama for a limited run.
The early previews suggest her character will quickly make her presence felt among the hospital staff. With her debut just around the corner, viewers are already getting a glimpse of how Dr Lia Whitmore plans to run things at the hospital.
Cecelia Specht Arrives At Garland Memorial Hospital
Cecelia Specht is set to appear on Beyond the Gates in a 20-episode storyline as Dr Lia Whitmore. Although the casting news was first announced late last month, fans are now getting their first look at the actress in the role.
Dr Whitmore is described as the brilliant and battle-tested Chief of Staff at Garland Memorial Hospital. Her storyline will not stay simple for long.
According to early details, Lia’s life takes a turn that shatters her confidence and forces her to question everything she once believed in. As the story unfolds, she will pull members of the Dupree family and others around Fairmont Crest.
Dr. Whitmore makes her first appearance on Friday, February 13. From the moment she arrives, she begins asserting authority at the hospital and makes it clear she will not tolerate behavior that interferes with patient care.
Lia Whitmore Confronts Carlton Fitzgerald
In a preview clip released ahead of her debut episode, Lia wastes no time confronting Dr. Carlton Fitzgerald. The moment reveals the strict standards she expects from the hospital staff.
Lia sarcastically remarks that matchmaking appears to have taken over medical services at the hospital. She points out how Dr. Ted Richardson and Nurse Shanice Johnson are behaving affectionately at the nurses station. It’s something she believes crosses a professional line.
She firmly tells Carlton, “You are all adults, and nobody is anybody’s supervisor, so it’s none of my business, until it affects patient care.” Lia then makes her position clear. She adds that once it affects patient care, she has a problem and Carlton should as well. Carlton can only watch in visible annoyance after Dr. Whitmore walks away.
Specht’s run on the series is currently expected to conclude with the Tuesday, May 26 episode of the daytime drama. However, that date could change if the schedule shifts or if the show is preempted. With a strong background in both daytime and primetime television, Specht brings plenty of experience to the role of Dr Lia Whitmore. It’ll be very interesting to watch her bring the magic to screens! Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Beyond the Gates spoilers.
