Jodie Prenger, who plays Glenda Shuttleworth on Coronation Street, has confirmed a major new storyline for her character. Glenda will soon find herself at war with some unruly new neighbours. Two new arrivals, Mick and Lou Michaelis, have already caused trouble for several residents, and they aren’t stopping anytime soon. Their disruptive behaviour has already made an impact, but they’re about to push things too far. As tensions rise, Glenda won’t sit back quietly—she’s ready for a fight.
Neighbors from Hell Stir Up Trouble
Gemma Winter and Chesney Brown won’t know what’s hit them when Mick and Lou move in behind their house. Producer Kate Brooks confirmed their arrival earlier this year, and warned that the couple would “cause a lot of damage and a lot of chaos”.
Gemma and Chesney started 2025 on a positive note when Chesney received compensation money after Les’s death. The payout allowed them to clear their debts and gave them a fresh start. However, just as they begin to enjoy this stability, their new neighbours threaten to turn their lives upside down.
Tension builds when Gemma spots Lou giving Aadi Alahan a hard time over the price of a pack of night-time pull-ups. When Lou makes eye contact, she realises Gemma is one of the mums from Bessie Street Primary.
Later that day, Lou persuades Gemma to have a drink with her at the pub. Meanwhile, Chesney fixates on a silver van he believes he has seen before. When Gemma reveals that Mick and Lou are moving into Mawdsley Street and she has already arranged to meet them—Chesney starts to question whether they should get involved.
Coronation Street: Mick and Lou’s Role
Mick and Lou have already annoyed several neighbours with their loud music and rubbish dumping. But while others might ignore their antics, Glenda isn’t one to stay silent. Jodie Prenger confirmed that Glenda will take a stand against them which might lead to an explosive feud.
She said, “We’ve filmed quite a few bits with them and all I’m going to say is they’re great. They’re a really good mix and they rile up a lot of people in the soap. There will be quite a few people they don’t get on with.”
At first, Glenda doesn’t know what to make of Mick and Lou. She trusts her instincts, but she hasn’t yet decided if they are bad news. However, as their behaviour continues to disrupt the street, she won’t hold back. Glenda has already had a tough year. She battled her brother George Shuttleworth over their inheritance, and she suffered heartbreak after things went wrong with Michael Bailey. Now, she’s about to face another fight.
Jodie teased even more twists ahead and said, “There are bits coming up but I can’t say, I just want to shake her. I love that things go wrong for her because I relate to it in my own life. I love playing Glenda.” She also hinted that Glenda’s past will play a role in future storylines.
As Mick and Lou are set to create havoc, Glenda won’t be the only one facing problems. But if they think they can get away with their behaviour, they’ll be shocked. Glenda won’t back down without a fight—but who will win this time? Only the upcoming Coronation Street spoilers can reveal the rest. Until then, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more soap updates.
