And while the cobbles mourn, actor Colson Smith is already teasing fans with an exciting update and no, it’s not what you’d expect!
A Shocking End for a Fan Favourite
It wasn’t long ago that viewers were glued to their screens, watching in horror as poor Craig Tinker became the victim of a savage attack. The culprit was none other than the booze-fuelled menace Mick Michaelis. We watched him strike Craig with a baseball bat in a fit of drunken rage.
Craig was rushed to hospital, but the damage had been done. The much-loved police officer, who first appeared back in 2011, tragically passed away from his injuries. Of course, many diehard Corrie fans already had a hint that the end was near.
Back in January, Colson took to Instagram and revealed that he’d been told in autumn 2024 that Craig’s story would come to an end the following year. It was emotional as he recalled how he’d “loved every single second” of his 14-year stay on the cobbles and called Coronation Street “the greatest street in the world.”
He didn’t hold back on the nostalgia either, and shared how he’d grown up “in, on and around Coronation Street” and learned just about everything from the people there. But rather than saying goodbye sadly, he hinted that this departure was just the beginning of something new. In his own words, “I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter two has in store for me.”
Colson’s First Gig After Coronation Street
Well, chapter two has officially begun now and Colson is already back in the spotlight! The actor has confirmed that his very first post-Corrie appearance will be on none other than Celebrity Mastermind. Yes, that’s right, our Craig has swapped his police badge for the infamous black chair.
Taking to Instagram Stories, Colson gave fans a sneaky peek of his appearance on the BBC quiz show. He shared a photo of himself looking all prepped up under the spotlight, along with a caption: “Find out in December.” Oh, the suspense! But of course, it wouldn’t be Colson without a little fun. He covered up his specialist subject and invited fans to guess what it might be. And guess what came up again and again? Hannah Montana!
Clearly amused, Colson responded with a laugh. He said “Can I just say how much I love that I’ve had about 6000 suggestions of Hannah Montana! I really did try”! He then revealed that sadly, he wasn’t allowed to pick the beloved Disney show as his topic.
