Soaps never stay the same for long, and that includes how we watch them! If you enjoy catching up on Coronation Street or Emmerdale with a morning drink or while handling chores, there’s an exciting change on the way. But first, let’s look back a bit.
ITV’s Been Tweaking Things Behind the Scenes
You’ve probably noticed that both Coronation Street and Emmerdale have started releasing their episodes on ITVX early in the day, 7am, to be precise. That’s much earlier than the usual evening airing. Especially for fans who can’t wait to see what’s happening with their favorite characters.
They’ve also been posting the episodes on YouTube, but there’s been a bit of a delay. Instead of appearing right after airing on TV and ITVX, they showed up a few days later. Not terrible, but spoilers don’t wait, and by the time the episode made it to YouTube, half the internet had already revealed the plot.
And if that’s not enough, ITV recently announced a major event, a crossover episode between Coronation Street and Emmerdale is coming soon. Yes, the Dales and the cobbles are joining forces for a one-off, hour-long special. ITV mentioned it would be a true “mash-up,” featuring a unique storyline where both worlds collide.
They also suggested that this crossover isn’t just for fun. Even though it’ll be a standalone episode, it will have significant consequences, some characters will exit, new ones will come in, and both soaps will feel the effects long after. Sounds intriguing, right?
Watch Full Coronation Street and Emmerdale Episodes on YouTube!
Here’s the big news: starting tomorrow, full episodes of Coronation Street and Emmerdale will be available on YouTube at the same time they air on ITVX, that’s 7am sharp. If you prefer YouTube or like watching an episode before the day kicks off, you’re in luck. No more waiting around. No more dodging spoilers. Just open YouTube and jump right in.
ITV confirmed this with a cheerful post on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying: “Soap fans, rejoice! Starting tomorrow, full episodes will be available on YouTube from 7am, the same day they air on TV! #Corrie #Emmerdale @ITV.” But wait, we’re not finished! Another change is coming in January. From then on, Emmerdale will air every weekday at 8pm, followed by Coronation Street at 8.30pm. ITV is calling it a “soap power-hour,” which feels quite fitting.
So yes, that means more back-to-back drama every night. But, and here’s the catch, both soaps will drop from six episodes a week to five. That means we’ll lose 30 minutes of screen time over the week. Still, it seems ITV is really trying to enhance the viewing experience, shorter, tighter, and easier to enjoy wherever you are.
