Paul Foreman’s passing on Coronation Street was devastating. It was just as heartwrenching for the viewers to watch as it was for Bernie and Billy to endure. Last year, Paul was diagnosed with motor neurone disease, and his journey through the illness lasted for about 18 months. However, in the weeks leading to his demise, Paul’s condition declined rapidly.
Paul had previously lost his motor abilities, and then it even became difficult for him to speak. Thankfully, his husband, Billy, stood beside him like a rock. However, just prior to Paul’s passing, their family rallied to let Billy take a night away to unwind. He went out for a night of drinking with his buddies and returned completely sloshed.
Billy realized that he had lost his phone and started panicking because he did not want to lose Paul’s photos and videos that he had failed to back up. Thus, he and David Platt set out in search of his phone. Meanwhile, unknown to him, Paul’s condition started depleting rapidly. By the time the family could reach Billy, the clock had started to tick.
Billy knew that he wouldn’t be able to reach Paul on time due to the parking lot commotion, so he decided to head to the hospital on foot. Paul passed away while Billy was reaching through the streets. Now, the bereaved husband is clashing with Paul’s mom, Bernie, over how to arrange Paul’s memorial.

“They are obviously quite different in their approach to life and subsequently therefore death as well,” actor Daniel Brocklebank told Metro. Furthermore, he confirmed that even though Gemma is trying her best to keep the peace between Billy and Bernie, there are more clashes to come.
