Coronation Street is about to face yet another controversy, with former actress Vicky Entwistle launching an attack on the show’s management. The 56-year-old actress, best known for playing Janice Battersby, took to social media to express her anger over a past storyline that she claims left her feeling “bullied” and “heartbroken.”
Shocking Accusations
Entwistle happened to be a regular on the ITV soap from 1997 to 2011—accused the production team of forcing her to shave her head for a storyline involving head lice. The 2005 plot saw Sean Tully shave off Janice’s hair after she became paranoid with nits. However, in a tweet (now deleted), Vicky alleged that the decision wasn’t voluntary and that she was pressured into making a drastic change.
Posting an old photo of herself with a shaved head, she wrote: “A massive TV company bullied me to shave my head! I was heartbroken. When I landed on our front door in tears, I saw that this man was one step ahead of me. After mopping up my sniffles, he took me to a film premiere and made me own it!! That’s love, I guess!”
The actress didn’t just stop there but also went on to talk about how “cruel and spiteful” they were and even branded them as talentless. She also hinted at declining fortunes, saying: “To be fair, it lasted another 15 years, which surprised us both. But thankfully, it’s on its way out now.”
This is not the first time Vicky has publicly criticized Coronation Street. Since leaving the soap in 2011, she has repeatedly spoken out about her experience of working at the soap as toxic and overly controlling. We don’t know what the truth is or is not, but we do wish Vicky all the best in the future, and may we again see her back on the screens. We will keep you posted about the news of the soap stars as they come. Until then, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more soap updates.
