Carla Connor’s suspicions begin simmering to the surface next week on Coronation Street, and this time, they’re all centered around Betsy Swain. What starts as reserved doubt soon becomes a fiery confrontation, leaving Lisa Swain torn between loyalty to her daughter and mounting tension with Carla.
Carla’s Instinct Turns Into Something More
Things begin when Betsy declines to return to college. On the outside, it looks like she‘s still recuperating from getting shot during Rob Donovan‘s hostage crisis at Ken Barlow‘s home.
But Carla isn‘t so sure. She‘s been around long enough to know when something doesn‘t add up. Though Carla and Betsy have become friends recently, Carla knows how clever and cunning the teen can be. She suspects Betsy may be pretending the degree of her injury to shirk duties—and possibly to receive even more sympathy and attention from her mum, Lisa.
Those suspicions are stronger when Lisa tells her she‘s quitting work to care for Betsy full-time. Carla can’t help but watch Lisa go out of her way, obviously still guilty over the unintentional shooting.
An insider on the show revealed that Lisa‘s guilt is causing her to believe everything Betsy tells her at the moment, even when it doesn‘t add up. The dynamic shifts when Carla finds herself alone with Betsy at the flat. She’s preparing her lunch when she sees something that freezes her. Betsy uses both hands to turn the pepper mill and sprinkle it over her pasta. Carla immediately sees it. That motion is not something a person with a serious arm injury can do.
It verified all Carla had been silently suspecting. When she confronts Betsy about it, the teenager explodes, tossing her plate across the room just as Lisa enters.
Later, Carla can‘t help but bring it up again, reminding Lisa that Betsy has obviously been acting. But rather than confronting Betsy, Lisa kept the peace and waved the comment aside.
Coronation Street: Tracy‘s Rage Opts Lisa Out
The dilemma doesn‘t remit. Quite the opposite, it‘s exacerbated further when Tracy McDonald blows in with an ultimatum for revenge on Preston‘s Petals van for supposed damage.
Earlier in the week, Coronation Street spoilers relay Betsy took matters into her own hands and sacked the contents of Tracy’s work vehicle in revenge for her involvement in Rob Donovan’s drama. The van crashed afterwards.
Now, Tracy demands that someone pay, and Carla will let Betsy off on no account. She demands that Betsy own upto what she‘s done—and compensate for the harm.
Lisa can‘t remain silent this time. With Carla and Betsy looking to her for action, Lisa is finally forced to decide whether to back her plotting daughter or side with Carla, who‘s merely calling for honesty and responsibility.
Betsy‘s injury plot began a month ago when she got swept up in Rob‘s standoff. Having been accidentally shot during Lisa and Rob‘s struggle, she was informed that the damage could be irreversible.
However, with Carla‘s discovery and Tracy‘s insistence on repercussions, Betsy‘s cover story might be on the verge of being unraveled. And Lisa?
