Cassie Plummer discovers she has been given a second chance with her love life on Coronation Street next week, just when she thought she had blown all her bridges. The character, who has fallen out with the residents of Weatherfield in recent weeks, is not necessarily frozen out of the love stakes when it comes to one man, at least: Steve McDonald.
While things between Steve and Cassie had appeared hopeful for a period of time, the goings-on of the past few weeks turned everything sharply. Cassie had been building a close connection with Steve since they shared something in common at the end of last year. But that promising connection came crumbling down when she was caught drugging Ken Barlow‘s drinks and swindling him using his credit card.
Her behavior outraged people, and she quickly became one of the most unpopular personalities on the Street. Only her mother Evelyn’s fierce loyalty intervened to temper the backlash somewhat. But still, Cassie‘s chances with Steve seemed blown-until now.
Steve Opens the Door Again
Steve will change his tune next week. He decides to apologize to Cassie for the way he has been acting toward her in recent weeks. While house-sitting at Tim and Sally Metcalfe’s home as part of a house-sitting favor, Steve encounters Cassie again and asks her for a cup of tea.
The tension between the two instantly dissolves, replaced by a flirtatious mood. Cassie, evidently relishing the moment, offers a daring proposal—they should have a skinny dip in the hot tub that rests in the Metcalfes’ backyard. But something happens that nobody anticipates.
Coronation Street: Romantic Bubble Bursts with a Shocking Incident
The lighthearted plan turns dark when Daniel Osbourne’s young son, Bertie, slips into the garden undetected. The kid has a terrifying accident in the hot tub-coming perilously close to drowning. The accident rocks the street and dampens whatever is starting to grow between Steve and Cassie.
In the meantime, actress Claire Sweeney, who appears as Cassie, recently revealed her wishes for the on-screen couple. She explained that she would love for Cassie and Steve to get together in a long-term relationship. She told us that even when Cassie is being worse-planning trouble or wallowing in sinister thoughts—Steve elicits a lighter personality from her. To her, Cassie becomes a “giggly teenager” whenever he’s present.
Claire added that Steve sheds Cassie’s tough edges in a very real way. “They just can’t help themselves,” she said, describing their bond as “forbidden fruit.” She added that Steve should have no business being near Cassie, considering her position on the Street. She’s now regarded as a full-fledged outcast.
Despite all this, Steve feels attracted to her. “It’s lust, but also real fondness and love,” Claire stated. What is to come might make or break their future—but the passion between them has been ignited for now. Where it goes next is yet to be seen. We will keep you posted on this.
