Coronation Street’s producer, Kate Brooks, recently discussed Cassie Plummer’s future in the show after the manipulation scene of Ken Barlow aired. Recently, we have seen Cassie change completely and take a nasty turn by poisoning Ken. When Ken tried to fire her, saying he couldn’t afford her, Cassie tried to get back at him by poisoning him so he would become reliant on her. As it turns out, her evil scheme pays off, and Ken keeps her as the carer with a pay raise.
Brooks Comments On Cassie’s Storyline
Kate Brooks commented that Cassie would continue to do this, and viewers really love her with the Barlows because she has so much fun. Her relationship with Ken hits differently, and she assures us that we will get to see more of them going forward. Even though Cassie had made some foul play, she ensured their friendship was genuine.
Brooks also adds that Cassie has had a bad life and a terrible upbringing. It’s only fair for her to make mistakes, and that persona can’t be shaken off. She has both good and evil in her and doesn’t know which way to go. Kate even hints at the storyline ahead and says it will only get good from here. Even Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassie, has also expressed her fear of the storyline regarding fan backlash over her character.
Claire Comments On Her Storyline
Claire said she was in shock because it got twisted as soon as her character started getting love from the viewers. The makers have made her character twisted – and that too against Ken Barlow, who is a national treasure. She joked as she said that now the viewers will think of her as the Public Enemy No 1! She even tries to relate to the audience as she says she is a Corrie fan, too, and she’d be angry watching Cassie playing games with Ken.
Claire even recalls one of her summer holidays to Majorca, when fans literally approached her and asked her to leave Ken alone. She also mentions that it was before she became twisted—now, we can’t even imagine what she will have to face. It will be interesting to see how Cassie much hate she receives going ahead.
