TOO REAL! Coronation Street: Catherine Tyldesley Reveals Why Corrie’s GROOMING Plot HAUNTED Her Off-Screen!

Coronation Street fans know Eva Price as bold and fearless. Catherine Tyldesley, the actress, has opened up about the side effects her storylines had on her personal life, however. With the return of her character, a very unsettling Will plot, her screen stepson being secretly groomed was revealed. Catherine Says Grooming Storyline Hits Home

Catherine explained that the plot, which involved Will, 16, being groomed by his coach, resonates deeply because of her own children. She and her husband, Tom Pitfield, have Alfie and Iris, who is 3. And because of this storyline, she had to think about the risks kids face today. She even let Alfie watch certain episodes. It’s because she wanted him to understand boundaries and what is right or wrong. 

She also referred to documentaries. It included Adolescence and Swiped: The School That Banned Smartphones. It explored the dangers of online radicalisation and misogyny among children. Moreover, it was terrifying for Catherine to understand that children go to bed with their phones.

Moreover, parents are unaware of what they access. She has put limitations on Alfie’s phone usage. She doesn’t allow him to use social media and unsupervised access. Only calls can be made. Catherine says if a popular soap brings such dangers to the viewer’s screen, they will understand the potential threats in their lives. Catherine emphasised that the storyline is important. It’s because many families face similar situations. 

Return to Coronation Street and Other Storylines

Catherine also reflected on Eva’s past on the soap. It included her relationship with Aidan Connor and Maria Connor faking pregnancy as revenge and giving her child to her half-sister, Toyah Battersby. Moreover, she returned to the soap after seven years last month. And this allowed her to explore more adult and serious plots. Elsewhere, Eva’s journey was kept authentic. 

She praised the show for covering other sensitive topics. It included Bethany Platt’s weight loss storyline. Catherine admitted she had to face pressure about her body in the past. And so now she wants to set a positive example for Alfie and Iris.
