Claire Sweeney, the beloved Coronation Street star, has received acclamations for her role on-screen as Cassie Plummer. Just as her professional life has been in the spotlight, her personal life has been, too. And if rumors are to be trusted, we hear a breakup on the horizon. Let’s take you through the ups and downs of her life lately.
How It All Started
Back in January, the pair appeared on Dancing on Ice – and both exited the show with their partners within a two-week span. Even though they were with different partners, fans couldn’t help but notice the chemistry between Ricky and Claire.
Once the pair hung up their skates, the pair shared a nod on their romance at the opening of Manchester’s new Co-op Live area. But after eight months of dating, they have now gone separate paths.
How’s the Pair Dealt With It?
Claire was spotted on Sunday (December 1) at the opening night of The Devil Wears Prada musical in the West End. At the event, she replied to The Sun, “We’re still friends. We were friends, we dated, and then we’re friends again. It’s all good.”
Even though their dating period was quite short, their friendship is 25 years old. Now, it seems like Claire and Ricky have successfully maintained a healthy friendship with each other.
Claire’s Sweet Memories from Her Relationship
When Claire appeared on Lorraine back in July, she shared a sneak peek about her relationship with Ricky Hatton. She revealed how it felt like they have a bond after knowing each other for so many years.
“I’ve known him for 25 years or so; we kind of always passed each other during events. Do you know what? He makes me laugh, that’s it. I first met him in La Manga in the early 2000s; then we did Dance for Comic Relief together in 2013.”
“Then we met at Dancing on Ice, and it’s great… He makes me laugh, and we both like Only Fools and Horses, so what’s not to like!” she added, with Lorraine Kelly replying: “I would say to all guys out there if you want to impress a woman – make a girl laugh.”
What Claire Shared About Her On-Screen Storyline
While Claire’s life is already in the spotlight, Cassie’s life is no short of drama. Contrary to their bonding, we see Cassie spiking Ken Barlow’s tea with crushed tablets to hold onto her carer’s job when Ken is informed that he can’t afford her. Maybe she didn’t poison it; Ken had to be rushed to the hospital, leading to the poisonous attack. At the hospital, Ken even offered Cassie an extra pound per hour to hold for her job and take good care of him.
Claire commented on the storyline, “I think Cassie will go to any lengths to keep this going,” Claire previously said. “She’s not poisoning him with the intention to harm him; it’s just to keep him a little bit dopey, so he keeps her on, so he needs her.” Be it drama on-screen or off-screen, Claire knows how to keep us all glued.
