Coronation Street Secures Two Long-Standing Favourites

Coronation Street has confirmed that the actors who play George and Glenda Shuttleworth have signed new deals to stay on the show. Both characters have become well established in Weatherfield, and their continued presence reinforces their importance to ongoing storylines.

George first arrived on the cobbles in 2020 as the local undertaker and quickly made his mark with his dry humour and steady presence. Over the years, he has featured in a range of emotional and dramatic plots, becoming a reliable figure within the community.

Now, ITV has ensured that he will remain part of the fabric of the Street for the foreseeable future. The actor behind George confirmed the extension on social media on Sunday 1 March by sharing a celebratory image of himself raising a glass of fizz.

He wrote, “New contract? Cheers Corrie, don’t mind if I do. I bit their hand off. Can’t wait to see what’s around the corner for George aside from more corpses.” His message made it clear that he eagerly accepted the offer to continue in the role.

Glenda’s Place On The Street Is Confirmed

Glenda will also remain firmly rooted in Weatherfield. Since arriving in 2022 as George’s outspoken and glamorous sister, she has brought energy and bold personality to the cobbles, particularly through her work behind the bar at the Rovers Return.

The actress who plays Glenda revealed that she had just signed a new contract and confirmed she would be staying for another year. She admitted that she often feels nervous about whether she will be asked to stay, so receiving the offer left her thrilled.
