Eileen Grimshaw has officially left Coronation Street, but fans still have questions. As her final scenes air this month, everyone is asking, will Sue Cleaver be heading to EastEnders or Emmerdale next? Let’s find out what the truth is!
Was It All Planned?
Sue announced her departure earlier this year. Turning 60 motivated her to make some changes. “It was time to embrace change,” she said, “and live fearlessly.” But don’t worry, the Corrie door isn’t fully closed. She didn’t leave without a proper farewell. She called Ryan Thomas, who played her on-screen son Jason, and asked him to return for her exit.
Let’s not forget that Sue has been busy even while on Corrie. She performed in Sister Act on stage, appeared on Loose Women in 2024, and survived the jungle in I’m A Celeb back in 2022.
Soaps Are Swapping Stars, But Not Sue
With other soap stars leaving, like Denise Welch and Michelle Collins, many expected Sue to follow. But she’s standing firm. “I’m still very committed to Corrie,” she stated, clearly ruling out any appearances in rival soaps “at this stage.”
She shared that the show provided her with what most actors only dream of: stability, time with her son, and a real home life. “I’ve been incredibly fortunate. It has a big place in my heart,” she said. She’s not bitter about leaving, either. In fact, she’s “chuffed” with the send-off she received and proud of the legacy she leaves behind.
What’s Next for Sue After Coronation Street?
While filming her final scenes felt “really weird,” Sue said it also felt like the right time. She’s now enjoying her new freedom and already loves her work on Loose Women. “There’s a lot more of the world I want to see,” she mentioned.
She may be gone from Coronation Street, but don’t expect her behind the bar at the Queen Vic any time soon. Sue is carving her own path with no soap swaps in sight. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more soap news, spoilers, and behind-the-scenes drama!
