Coronation Street has had its fair share of tense moments lately, but this past week really pushed the limit. A dramatic storyline involving Mick Michaelis and Kit Green left fans on edge. It’s just not just because of the shock factor, but because some things got way too violent for a soap. Now, a number of viewers say they’re thinking about going to Ofcom over it.
Mick’s Escape Set the Stage for Trouble
If you’ve been keeping up, you’ll know Mick Michaelis was locked up after a string of violent acts. But just when you thought he was out of the picture, he broke out of prison, and went straight after his old mate-turned-enemy, Kit Green. Mick found Kit and beat him so badly, Kit ended up in hospital fighting for his life.
That in itself was hard to watch, but then Mick kept going. While trying to escape, he came face to face with Sally Metcalfe. Poor Sally just wanted to talk him down, but Mick turned threatening, and the whole scene felt like it could’ve gone horribly wrong. The drama was definitely intense, but a lot of viewers say it just didn’t sit right with them.
Fans Say the Violence Went Too Far
After those scenes aired, plenty of Corrie fans headed to social media, and let’s just say, they didn’t hold back. One viewer said the scenes with Mick were just not appropriate for a soap and called it “sickening” to watch him grab a weapon and lash out like that. They even admitted to skipping through parts because the violence wasn’t entertaining, it was too much.
Another fan said the show now feels more like a gritty crime drama than the Corrie they love. Someone else brought up other recent storylines too, like Mason’s reign of terror and Rob attacking Lisa in the car. But for them, this latest one with Mick took things to a whole new level.
A Shocking Exit from Coronation Street
Of course, all of this was part of Mick’s big exit. Actor Joe Layton has now wrapped up his time on Coronation Street, and what a dramatic send-off it was. The character’s rampage not only left Kit in hospital but also rattled Sally and had the whole street in shock.
Mick’s storyline won’t be forgotten anytime soon, whether that’s for the right reasons or not. While Joe’s performance as Mick was gripping, the violent scenes have sparked a real debate about where soaps should draw the line, especially when they air before the watershed.
Now fans are wondering, will Corrie address the complaints, or is this just a sign of how gritty the show’s willing to go? Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest Corrie drama and soap updates!
