McCusker shared that Ben’s character is far from one-dimensional, with “lots of sides” that will gradually unfold. Viewers will soon see a man caught in an impossible position. “He’s got every reason to be caught between his mum and Eva because he loves them both dearly,” McCusker explained. He also hinted that Maggie doesn’t always treat Eva kindly, leaving Ben in a painful position.
Despite seeing the unfairness, he hesitates to step in, haunted by the fact that Maggie raised him alone. The actor admitted that this emotional tug-of-war is one of Ben’s greatest challenges. He described his character as a good father and partner. But one who struggles to assert himself when family loyalties collide. “He’s scared to step in,” McCusker said.
