Coronation Street really shook things up over Christmas with a storyline that went from festive to frightening in no time. What started as a cosy day at the Rovers ended with serious questions hanging in the air and by the next episode, the Street was already dealing with the fallout.
A Christmas Day That Didn’t End As Expected
On Christmas Day, Daniel Osbourne, Ken Barlow’s son, spent the day at the Rovers Return with his girlfriend Megan Walsh and the Driscoll family. Everything seemed normal, relaxed, and very Christmassy, nothing to hint that trouble was coming. But right at the end of the episode, things took a sudden and shocking turn. Someone attacked Daniel and left him badly hurt, with no clue about who was behind it. The twist came completely out of nowhere.
Viewers already knew that Megan was secretly having an affair with her student Will Driscoll, but even with that knowledge, nothing during Christmas Day suggested that Will would be involved in something so serious. Early the next morning, Evelyn Plummer stumbled across Daniel while walking her dog. Realising straight away that something was badly wrong, she raised the alarm, leaving everyone worried about whether Daniel would survive.
Boxing Day Brings Some Relief
The Boxing Day episode quickly answered the biggest question; Daniel was alive. Viewers saw him in hospital, sitting up with a bandage on his head. He tried to brush it off, saying it looked worse than it really was and insisting that nobody was to blame.
When pub landlady Maggie Driscoll arrived at the hospital, she admitted she just needed to see Daniel for herself. She asked if he had seen who attacked him, joking that she watched plenty of crime dramas and expected some kind of clue. Daniel explained that he had no idea who did it. However, he did confirm that his watch and wallet had gone missing during the attack.
The Truth Finally Comes Out
Earlier, Maggie had questioned Will in the café and pushed him hard enough to get him talking. Later, she cornered him in the back room of the Rovers Return, where he finally confessed. Will admitted that he attacked Daniel after losing his temper when Megan started a relationship with Daniel, despite secretly being involved with him herself. He said he went for Daniel from behind without thinking and honestly believed for a moment that he had killed him.
Will was clear that he didn’t steal Daniel’s watch or wallet. Maggie then worked out that someone else must have taken advantage of the situation and robbed Daniel after the attack. The whole reveal linked the violent outburst directly to the secret affair, showing just how badly things had spiralled out of control. Daniel survived the attack, but the damage doesn’t end there.
