The Family’s Troubled Past
The girls’ background explains why life has been so turbulent. Their father Mick went on a violent rampage after discovering that his eldest child Brody was actually Kit Green’s son. He attacked Lou and later killed PC Craig Tinker, which sent him straight to prison for many years. Next, Lou was also jailed when she assaulted Gary Windass.
Because of this, Shanice and Joanie were left without parents and placed with Sally and Tim. The couple have worked hard to give them love and safety, but the scars from the past keep showing. For example, a small disagreement between Sally and Tim upset Shanice because it reminded her of her parents’ explosive rows.
Everything became even worse when Joanie lost her temper and threw a TV remote at her sister. Sally and Tim were horrified when they noticed several bruises on Shanice’s arms. Then, at the worst possible time, a social worker and psychologist arrive to check on the family. After talking with Sally and Tim, they say they are pleased with how the girls are being cared for. They confirm that Shanice and Joanie can remain together under the Metcalfes’ roof. Just as relief begins to sink in, the unthinkable happens. A terrifying scream suddenly rings out from the garden, stopping everyone in their tracks.
