We know that Abi Webster’s life on Coronation Street has always been hard. She has fought addiction, lost her son, and now finds herself in a complicated love triangle with her husband Kevin and his brother Carl. While the drama continues to build onscreen, actress Sally Carman-Duttine has made a significant decision behind the scenes that fans will want to hear about.
Sally Turned a Brief Role Into a Long-Running Fan Favorite
Sally Carman-Duttine joined Coronation Street in 2017 to play Abi Franklin. Producers originally cast her for just six episodes. However, the character resonated with viewers, and Sally’s performance convinced the team to keep her around.
Over the years, she has taken Abi through some of the soap’s most emotional storylines. She portrayed Abi’s grief after Seb died, showed her vulnerability during Mason Radcliffe’s death, and currently reveals her inner conflict in the affair with Carl. Each storyline pushed the character further, with Sally at the center of it all.
She’s In Coronation Street for the Long Haul!
Sally recently spoke to The Sun and confirmed her desire to stay on Coronation Street. She expressed that she definitely sees the show in her future and hopes the team feels the same way. She reflected on her time with gratitude, noting she joined for six episodes but ended up building a real career on the show.
She also mentioned that she would feel thankful even if it ended tomorrow. However, she added that she is still enjoying her time and is not ready to move on just yet. According to Sally, she loves playing Abi and feels lucky every day she is on set.
Playing Abi Comes With Its Own Challenges
Sally shared her thoughts on portraying someone as complex as Abi. She stated that she likes Abi and recognizes her good qualities, especially her big heart, but she wouldn’t be friends with someone like her in real life.
She described Abi as emotionally immature, saying she becomes very defensive, upset, and hurt. This kind of emotional intensity makes Abi a challenging character, both in the storylines and to understand.
Still, Sally clearly loves the role and enjoys the work it brings. For now, Abi isn’t leaving Weatherfield anytime soon. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest updates, drama, and cast news from Coronation Street.
