Todd Grimshaw’s new romance on Coronation Street seemed promising at first, but it hasn’t taken long for cracks to appear. Now, as the storyline takes an unsettling turn, producer Kate Brooks has opened up about what’s coming next and her revelation has left viewers both anxious and intrigued.
Todd’s Troubling Romance Takes a Dark Turn
Ever since Theo Silverton arrived on the cobbles, fans have been wary. Todd, who’s been unlucky in love, finally appeared to find happiness again. But beneath Theo’s charming smile, signs of control began to emerge, and viewers could sense trouble ahead. During a recent episode, Todd discovered that Theo hadn’t been honest with him about a serious issue. It turned out that Theo had lost a key contract at work; one linked to Pete, a man with whom he’d had a one-night stand.

The twist came after Todd, relieved to get the all-clear following a health scare, had gone for a drink with his ex, Billy Mayhew. Out of jealousy, Theo slept with Pete as payback, and their relationship has spiralled ever since. As Todd confronted him at home, George Shuttleworth showed up unexpectedly with a restaurant voucher, unaware of the chaos brewing between the pair.
Theo’s anger flared before he broke down in tears, calling himself a failure. Todd, desperate to help, tried to comfort him, and they later headed to the Rovers Return for a drink. But the evening ended badly when Gary Windass revealed that he’d almost convinced Pete to resume the contract until Todd apparently “messed it up” by telling him to stay away.

The look Theo shot Todd across the pub said it all; rage simmering behind his eyes as a text from his bank revealed he was now deep into his overdraft. It didn’t take long for fans to voice their frustration. Many took to social media to demand Theo’s exit from the show, saying his manipulative and controlling behaviour was difficult to watch.
Fans React As Theo’s Behaviour Escalates
One fan described the scenes as “emotional gaslighting at its finest,” begging Todd to “get rid of him and fast.” Another said the only thing Theo “got right” was that he should “go away.” Others echoed the sentiment, with one viewer commenting that they “just don’t like him.” But while fans are calling for Todd to escape the toxic relationship, producer Kate Brooks has confirmed that the storyline is far from over.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News and other outlets, she explained that this has been a “slow-burn” story by design. It will explore a type of abuse rarely shown on Coronation Street. Kate said the team deliberately built up Theo’s character as someone who appeared caring but carried dark tendencies beneath the surface. Todd, she added, feels indebted to Theo because of everything he’s sacrificed, leaving him trapped in a painful cycle.
According to Kate, viewers are about to see Theo’s true nature emerge in full force. She described him as a “dark character” skilled at manipulation and gaslighting, explaining that the storyline will depict “domestic abuse in a same-sex relationship”. Kate revealed that the episodes ahead will be “dark, raw, and authentic.”And for now, it seems Todd’s story will only get darker before it finds any light.
