Gary’s been missing from Coronation Street for a while, and now that he’s finally turned up, the whole situation feels a bit strange. There’s been a name mix-up, a fake identity, and some parts of the storyline that didn’t quite sit right, and viewers at home were quick to pick up on every detail.
Gary’s Disappearance and a Bizarre Cover-Up
A few weeks back, the show revealed through a flashback that Lou had attacked Gary with a pipe, leaving him unconscious. He was then taken to hospital.
But instead of being treated under his real name, he was admitted as “Chesney”, which already had fans scratching their heads. Making things even messier, Lou showed up at the hospital every day and pretended to be his wife.
Lou introduced herself as “Gemma,” clearly trying to keep her tracks covered. While Gary remained in a coma, Lou also took his bank card and started spending money from his account without anyone noticing.
Eventually, Gary woke up. Though dazed and confused, he somehow managed to call the salon, hoping to get hold of Maria. When she arrived at the hospital, it didn’t take her long to realise something wasn’t right.
The Truth Comes Out in Coronation Street
Once Maria figured out what had happened, she acted quickly. She asked David to keep Lou occupied at the salon while she called the police. Not long after, officers arrived and arrested Lou.
Meanwhile, Sally and Tim kindly looked after Lou’s children for another night. Even though the storyline wrapped up with Lou being exposed, viewers had plenty to say about how it played out. Many pointed out some plot holes.
For instance, several fans wondered how Maria was able to find Gary in the hospital if he was listed under Chesney’s name. Others felt Gary’s recovery happened a little too fast, he had just come out of a coma, but somehow had the strength and clarity to make a phone call and remember the salon number.
There were also comments about how the police handled the situation. Some fans mentioned that checking CCTV from the ATM where Lou used the stolen card would have made the investigation easier. One viewer noted that the card would have had Lou’s fingerprints on it, and the show didn’t bring up at all.
Mick’s Escape Shocks Weatherfield
While Gary and Lou’s storyline reached its breaking point, another major moment was quietly building up. At the end of the episode, Brody was shown on the phone with Mick, and it turned out Mick had already escaped from prison.
Instead of lying low, Mick went straight to Weatherfield High to find his daughter Joanie. But his arrival caused a commotion, and he ended up making quite a scene at the school. The outburst left young Sam, Nick’s son, visibly shaken and traumatised.
Now, with Mick back in town and clearly unstable, things are heating up fast. And with Lou already facing arrest, both characters are clearly heading for their exits. In fact, it’s already been confirmed by the show’s producer that both Lou and Mick have wrapped up filming.
Their short-term appearances are coming to an end, and their departures from the show are just around the corner. Some fans have said they’re worried Lou might be written out in a dramatic way, possibly even killed off.
