Becky finally being arrested should have been the moment Coronation Street pulled everything together, but instead it has done the opposite. It left viewers even more confused about what she, Costello and Curtis were really involved in, why someone had to die for it, and what Kit and Lisa have actually been investigating all along.
What Becky Really Did in Coronation Street?
Fans agree on one basic thing: Becky didn’t fake her death for no reason. Somewhere along the way, she got mixed up with Curtis and his gang, either because she was undercover or because she was already crooked.
Then, at some point, money went missing. Some viewers think she shook down the gang and stole their cash, while others believe she was taking bribes and tried to run before everything blew up.

Either way, the danger became very real, and Becky needed to disappear. Because of that, Costello stepped in. He helped Becky fake her death and kept the truth buried, and most fans think he was paid off for doing it. That would explain how he suddenly owned a cottage in the Lakes outright, and how Becky could talk about having a beach house in Spain.
Even so, many viewers still don’t believe she was ever in Spain at all, which already makes her whole story feel shaky. On top of that, there is the horrifying part of how Becky “died.” A homeless woman called Tia Wardley was killed by Mason’s brothers, and Costello later identified her body as Becky’s so Lisa wouldn’t have to see a badly damaged corpse.

After that, Becky took Tia’s identity and vanished. Much later, Carla started to get suspicious when one of Mason’s brothers mentioned Tia’s name in prison, which pushed her to start digging into who Tia really was and how she linked back to Becky.
How Mason, His Brothers And That Robbery Fit In
From there, the story becomes even darker. Mason didn’t just end up dead by chance. He started to realise what his brothers had done and found something stolen from the original robbery, a World War Two helmet that had been listed as missing, in his brother’s flat.
When he turned that in, it became clear he knew too much. At the same time, those same brothers were believed to have been in the car that hit Tia and to have kept evidence from the crime scene. As a result, Mason became a threat to them, and that is why they killed him.

This is also why many viewers feel Becky should be facing far more anger than she is, because her fake death set off a chain of events that led directly to Mason losing his life. Even with all of that, though, Coronation Street has still not clearly explained how much Becky knew about Mason’s brothers or how deep Costello’s role went. Because of this, fans have been left to piece the story together themselves. That is exactly why so many people feel the whole thing is messy and unfinished.
Why Becky And Costello Turned On Each Other
At the same time, Becky and Costello’s fallout makes things even harder to follow. They clearly worked together at the start, yet once Becky came back, they were suddenly at war. One strong theory is that Costello wanted Becky to stay hidden for good. But she refused to leave Lisa and Betsy behind again. To stop him from forcing her back into hiding, she threatened his daughter.

However, that still leaves a big hole in the story. If Becky really had proof that Costello was bent, why didn’t she simply expose him? As one frustrated fan pointed out, just revealing that she was alive would have ruined his life.
So threatening his child and framing Betsy feels like an extreme and confusing way to deal with it. Meanwhile, the money keeps coming back into the picture. Many viewers believe Becky and Costello split whatever they stole from the gang. That would explain how he suddenly had money and why she never seemed to be struggling either.
Curtis, Corruption And The Big Missing Piece
While all this was happening, Curtis himself stayed frustratingly vague. Some fans think Becky really was undercover with his gang until she went rogue and stole from them. While others believe she had been corrupt for a long time and simply used Curtis as cover.
A few viewers even joke that Becky might as well be Curtis, because none of her version adds up. What also keeps bothering fans is how perfectly the timing worked out.

Many viewers think she kept pretending the gang were still after her so she could move into Lisa and Carla’s home, play on Betsy’s emotions, and push herself back into their lives. Carla was the only one saying what everyone else was thinking. Was Becky really in danger? Why was she walking around Weatherfield like nothing was wrong?
Because of that, many fans now suspect there has to be a higher-up dirty cop behind the scenes. That would explain how bodies were misidentified, evidence disappeared, and why Kit’s investigation feels so serious. Some even think this could turn into a proper “bent coppers” storyline, with Lisa and Kit eventually exposing someone powerful. Right now, Becky being locked up doesn’t feel like a proper ending with so many loose ends. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
