Coronation Street is getting ready for a dramatic homecoming after 11 years as Jason Grimshaw returns, and it‘s not merely for waving goodbye to mum Eileen. As her exit plot develops, Jason returns to the cobbles with more than a bit of baggage and a talent for causing chaos.
Jason‘s True Reason for Homecoming
Ryan Thomas, the actor playing Jason, let on that his character comes back not just for Eileen, but also because his life in Thailand has gone down the tubes. His girlfriend left him, he‘s penniless, and he requires some good old-fashioned momma comfort. Ryan characterized Jason as remaining “that happy-go-lucky, lovable guy,” and explained that he’s all about family, even if he‘s faking it most of the time.
Sue Cleaver, who stars as Eileen, actually asked Ryan to return a year ago to be a part of her storyline as she leaves. Although he hadn‘t intended to do so, Ryan explained that he couldn‘t say no—and described the experience as “really special.”
Trouble Comes Knocking (and Flirting!) on Coronation Street
Naturally, Jason doesn‘t spend time stirring the pot. Ryan taunted that his character hasn‘t altered when it comes to women. Jason brings someone home almost instantly, causing tension with brother Todd. The flirting banter is back, and so is the madness.
Ryan confessed that coming back was daunting initially. He even looked at old videos on YouTube to prepare. But once shooting started, he fell into the character naturally.
No Regrets, Just Memories
In retrospect, Ryan said that coming back was the best decision. The plot was ideal, and the cast bond revived fond memories. “It was like the old days,” he reminisced, terming it an experience he will always treasure.
Sue Cleaver, who plays Eileen, announced her exit earlier this year after 25 years on the soap. Her final scenes are due to air this spring, and with Jason back, it’s bound to be a goodbye to remember.
