Sonia made a strong impression on Corrie playing Mel Maguire, who got swept up in Nathan Curtis’ grooming storyline. Her character ended up kidnapping Bethany Platt and threatening her with a wheel wrench, all in a desperate attempt to stop her from testifying in court.
When her time on Coronation Street ended, Sonia said she had a great experience. She called it an amazing opportunity and said the cast felt like one big, welcoming family. After that, she kept busy with new roles. Then in November, she joined Hollyoaks as Kat Omari, adding another soap to her list.

Now for the lovely news, Sonia has just given birth to her second child. She shared the update on Instagram with a sweet photo of her holding her newborn son and looking at him with so much love. She revealed his name as Carter Benjamin Machin.
In her caption, she wrote, “Sunday 22nd June at 10:26pm my life became complete. My beautiful boy Carter Benjamin Machin arrived, 7lbs of pure perfection. You are loved more than you will ever know little man.”

Sonia, who’s married to Arron Machin, received loads of warm messages. Lucy Fallon was quick to comment with “gorgeous, congratulations xxxxx.” Jessica Fox from Hollyoaks also sent love, writing, “Ohhhhhh congratulations.” Chelsee Healey added, “congratulations darling carter is perfect,” and one fan wrote, “Aghhhh congratulations Sonia and family! He’s perfect.”
She’d announced her pregnancy back in February, three years after the birth of her first child, Sienna. Just three weeks ago, she had a lovely baby shower with close friends. She wore a fitted cream dress and even joined in on a few dance moves.
With her family now growing and her acting career continuing strong, Sonia seems to be in a really happy place.
