‘I WAS RUNNING ON EMPTY’ Coronation Street Favourite Reveals Hidden Illness Led To Hospital Dash

By Roy

Coronation Street fans love a good shocker, but this latest reveal didn’t happen in Weatherfield, it happened in real life. A former star from both Corrie and Hollyoaks has spoken out about a health crisis that began with everyday symptoms and quickly escalated into something far more serious, leaving viewers stunned and curious about what unfolded next.

When Everyday Exhaustion Wasn’t Just Tiredness

Lucy-Jo Hudson, remembered on Coronation Street as Katy Harris from 2002 to 2005 and later known to Hollyoaks fans as Donna-Marie Quinn between 2018 and 2023 has shared the full story of a medical emergency she faced two years ago.

The 42-year-old revealed that her health began declining long before she understood why, explaining that she felt constantly drained, breathless, and stuck in a low mood. At first, Hudson convinced herself it was simply life moving too fast.

She admitted she chalked it up to the daily chaos of being a working mum, saying she felt like she was spinning “a million plates” and running on empty, just trying to keep up like everyone else. She believed stress was the culprit and never imagined something more serious was hiding beneath those symptoms. But as time passed, she realised it wasn’t just exhaustion caused by a busy lifestyle. Hudson later explained that there was an underlying issue quietly causing all those alarming changes without her even realising it.

The Emergency Dash That Changed Everything

Hudson revealed that things took a frightening turn when she was rushed into A&E and doctors discovered the real cause of her symptoms, chronic anaemia. She explained that her haemoglobin levels were dangerously low and that she urgently needed a blood transfusion, eventually receiving two to stabilise her condition. She shared that she remained in hospital for several days while medical staff monitored her levels.

CS/ Katy shares an update

Hudson expressed gratitude to her doctor and the team for guiding her through what she described as a terrifying ordeal. The actor posted about the experience on Instagram alongside a photo of herself undergoing the transfusion. She shared her story during National Blood Week, saying it felt like the right moment to let others know.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Hudson used her platform to highlight the life-saving importance of donated blood. She explained that transfusions are needed every day. It’s not only for emergencies, but also during surgeries, childbirth, and treatments for conditions. She said the list of people who rely on donors is “endless” and far greater than most realise.
