Sally Carman-Duttine Signs New Contract To Stay On Coronation Street
Carman-Duttine has confirmed that she will continue playing Abi Webster after signing a new contract with Coronation Street. The actress revealed that the deal will keep her on the famous cobbles for at least another year.
Speaking to Radio Times at the TV Choice Awards, Carman-Duttine shared just how much she enjoys working on the long running soap. She said, “I just signed for another year, which is great. My goodness, I love it. It’s my favourite job I’ve ever done.”
Carman-Duttine first joined Coronation Street in 2017, and Abi Webster quickly became one of the most layered and compelling characters in Weatherfield. Since her arrival, the character has been involved in several major storylines that have kept viewers deeply invested in her journey.
During her time on the show, Abi has struggled with drug addiction, endured the devastating loss of her son Seb who was murdered, and dealt with the fallout from her affair with Carl behind Kevin Webster’s back. These storylines placed Abi at the centre of some of the soap’s most emotional moments.
Actress Dreams Of A 40 Year Coronation Street Run
While confirming her new contract, Carman-Duttine also revealed that she would happily remain on Coronation Street for many years if the show continues to keep her around. In fact, she joked that she would love to match the incredible milestone achieved by Corrie legend Sally Dynevor.
Dynevor recently celebrated 40 years playing Sally Metcalfe on the ITV soap. When asked whether she would like to achieve the same level of longevity, Carman-Duttine laughed and replied that she absolutely would, adding, “If they’ll have me!”
The actress also spoke about what makes Abi Webster such an interesting character to portray. She admitted that Abi often wins people over before making a decision that leaves fans frustrated. She explained that the character tends to get viewers on her side and then suddenly does something that makes everyone react with disbelief. Carman-Duttine said she loves playing those moments when people ask why Abi made such a terrible decision.
According to the actress, Abi consistently makes mistakes and learns the hard way. She described the character as eternally flawed and said she enjoys portraying someone who keeps messing things up rather than always doing the right thing.
