Cassie Plummer isn’t bowing out of Coronation Street just yet. After a rollercoaster year in Weatherfield, the sharp-tongued newcomer is sticking around, and she may even be part of a big soap moment coming up in 2026. Let’s just say, life on the cobbles isn’t going to get any quieter anytime soon.
A Rocky Ride in Weatherfield
Since appearing last year as Evelyn Plummer’s estranged daughter Cassie has had no lack of drama. Whether it was fighting addiction, fighting with neighbours, or fighting to put her life back together, she made an impression right away. And not always a good one.
One of her lowest ebb was the moment she was employed to be Ken Barlow’s carer. Rather than nurse him back to health, she secretly administered antihistamines to keep him ill, and retain her position. When Ken discovered, he dismissed her instantly, and the majority of the neighbours followed suit. However, all that aside, Cassie’s not for the door.
Claire Sweeney Signs New Coronation Street Contract
Claire Sweeney, who plays Cassie, has formally signed a new contract keeping her on the show through next year. As per a source, Claire’s over the moon to stay on, describing it as a dream job. And with a huge Emmerdale crossover to come in 2026, there’s hope she’ll be included in that too.
The insider said it’s a massive moment in soap history, and Claire would die to be a part of it. ITV recently announced that Corrie and Emmerdale will join forces for one-off episode as part of a new schedule change, uniting characters from both shows on screen for the first time.
She confirmed she’s loving being part of Corrie, and as Cassie’s tale is far from over, viewers can look forward to further twists, turns, and showdowns in the coming months. Keep up with Soap Opera Daily for all the Coronation Street news, scoops, and gossip!
