With Daisy leaving and Jenny relinquishing the reins, the Rovers Return is in urgent need of cover. But who’ll be serving up the pints next? The Rovers Return is back in the spotlight in Coronation Street, and this week it’s all about who takes over behind the bar. With two big exits leaving a huge hole in the rota, Carla Connor makes a surprising decision—and one person no one would have thought of is given a trial that could turn their life around.
The Future of the Pub Is Uncertain
Since Daisy Midgeley’s explosive departure and Jenny Connor’s walkout from the pub, the Rovers have been in a bit of disarray. Jenny knew Carla would be selling the place soon, so she gathered her belongings and moved in with Rita Tanner. Nowadays, she’s serving shifts at The Kabin rather than pints.
And while Jenny is still in Weatherfield, Daisy is well and truly off. With Charlotte Jordan departing the show to pursue new ventures, her character’s exit brought to a close an era at the back of the Rovers bar.
All of this has put new manager Glenda Shuttleworth in the hot seat.
On Wednesday’s episode, she complains to Carla about being understaffed and in need of assistance. But Carla, now pub owner, puts the kibosh on the idea—telling Glenda that they must reduce expenses while she searches for a buyer.
Carla Changes Her Mind in Coronation Street
But something comes up when Carla is told something by an old friend. Roy Cropper intervenes to support someone whom he feels should be given a chance—and that person is Lauren Bolton.
Lauren, intent on starting over after a bad time, is set on providing for her baby boy Frankie, who has just been released from hospital. She’s keen to work and willing to show her worth, and Roy’s silent encouragement appears to nudge Carla just enough.
Finally, Carla relents and agrees to let Lauren have a trial shift—on one condition: it’s a trial shift.
The pressure is on. Lauren has to win over not only Glenda, but also established Rovers favourite Sean Tully and Gemma Winter-Brown. Will she succeed, or will the bar pressure prove too much?
A New Chapter—or Just Temporary Relief?
Lauren’s first shift signifies the start of a potential new beginning—not only for her but for the Rovers as well. With Carla about to flog, the future of the pub remains on a knife’s edge. Yet at present, all eyes are on whether or not Lauren settles into the group and the atmosphere of Weatherfield’s most celebrated drinking hole.
As for Glenda, she’s got more than orders and staff drama to handle. Maintaining the pub, coping with turnover, and managing expectations isn’t easy. Lauren’s success (or failure) may make all the difference in how long Glenda manages to keep the reins. Will Lauren find her place behind the bar, or is it a temporary change?
