Betsy Swain has only been part of Coronation Street for a short time, but her journey on the cobbles has moved quickly. After arriving as a friend on the fringes of Weatherfield, she soon became part of one of the show’s most recognisable families. Now, just over a year into her Corrie role, Betsy finds herself caught up in Corriedale.
How Betsy Swain Became Part Of Corriedale
Sydney Martin joined Coronation Street last summer as Betsy Swain, first appearing on screen as a friend of Sabrina Adetiba. At the time, Betsy’s role seemed fairly low-key, with little to suggest she would become so closely linked to the soap’s bigger stories. That changed when the show revealed Betsy as the daughter of DS Lisa Swain, played by Vicky Myers.

The reveal brought Betsy firmly into the Swain family and gave the character a stronger presence on the cobbles. As Betsy settled into life in Weatherfield, ITV began confirming plans for a special episode that would bring Coronation Street and Emmerdale together. The crossover, titled Corriedale, was announced as a historic moment for both soaps.
Sydney Martin Reacts To Being Included In Crossover
The Corriedale crossover will air on January 5 at 8pm and the storyline is about a catastrophic multi-vehicle pile-up that puts lives at risk. Several characters have been confirmed as part of the episode. But a full cast list later revealed that Sydney Martin’s Betsy Swain is also involved.

Speaking about finding out she was part of the crossover, Sydney said she felt shocked. She explained that she went into the meeting without expecting anything and was surprised when she was told. She said being part of two iconic soaps with long-running characters felt like a huge privilege. Sydney added that the experience was a lot of fun and described it as being like a big school trip.
Sydney attended the Corriedale premiere at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford on Tuesday, December 16. The event was held as part of Bradford’s UK City of Culture 2025 celebrations. There, she was joined by her on-screen family, including Vicky Myers, Alison King and Amy Cudden. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest Coronation Street and Emmerdale updates.
