As Coronation Street gears up for one of the most explosive years yet, fans are about to get a surprise both on-screen and off-screen. Apart from the gripping storylines, as always, the show is now giving fans a unique chance to bring home some of the most iconic outfits and props. We were as surprised to know this as you are now—but why is ITV selling off such iconic possessions on eBay? So, was the cash crunch story real after all?
Iconic Coronation Street Outfits and Props On Sale
The ITV eBay store has a great collection of wardrobe staples from some of the most memorable actors and props that would make you take a trip down memory lane. From Kym Marsh’s coat to an Oasis belt coat and even Jack Duckworth’s t-shirts. All of this and more is up for grabs and priced between £5 to a whopping £460. There are also props up for sale, such as Audrey Robert’s trolley and more—and seems like fans can’t stop bidding.
While this has been a great surprise for the fans, we can’t help but speculate about the reason behind the major sale. What adds fuel to our speculations are the trail of cast exits and the recent rumours about ITV’s cash crisis. First, the long-time runners of the show, like Helen Worth and Sue Cleaver, left the show, and there is a long list of actors awaiting exits or having already exited.
Apart from the lead actors, there are supporting per-day paid actors who are not getting enough scenes and failing to pay mortgages. Some actors have even taken up advertising and personal appearances to make ends meet.
Though the producer has denied it all as rumours and said that these were all planned exits—we can’t be completely sure, especially after the eBay sale. Maybe the show bosses are just trying to save us from the panic—only the upcoming Coronation Street news can confirm. Until the next update comes, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily.
