Coronation Street has long been a favourite among British soap fans, but it turns out the cobbles have a famous admirer. The soap marked a huge milestone in 2010, celebrating 50 years on air. While fans tuned in to see the drama, the cast received an unexpected message from a global superstar.
Snoop Dogg Sent a Special Message to the Cast
Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, recently revealed that US rap legend Snoop Dogg sent a video message to the cast during Coronation Street’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Speaking on the On the Sofa podcast, Jack recalled the moment alongside co-stars Colson Smith and Ben Price.
Jack said, “Do you remember when he sent the video to us at the live episode party? They put it up on the screen of Snoop going ‘yo, yo, yo, Coronation Street, 50 years man, that’s sick. He loved it. It was mad. It was before the days when phones recorded video well, and so the clip is now gone; it’s lost somewhere. But yeah, we got a big happy anniversary from Snoop Dogg.
Jack said Snoop was “loving it” and seemed genuinely excited about the soap’s milestone. Unfortunately, the video has since been lost due to the lower-quality phone recordings of the time. This isn’t the first time Snoop Dogg has shown his love for Coronation Street.
The Drop It Like It’s Hot rapper has previously expressed his admiration for the show, even telling The Sun that he’d love to make a cameo appearance. He said, “Coronation Street, I love it. If they call me, I’ll do it. I’ll play whenever they need”. “I love the cinematography, acting, the storylines, and just the reality.”
Snoop even hinted at his dream role, saying he’d love to prop up the bar at the Rovers Return. Given his larger-than-life personality, it’s easy to imagine him blending in with the soap’s lively characters.
While a Snoop Dogg cameo on Coronation Street hasn’t happened yet, his surprise message for the show’s 50th anniversary proves his love for the soap is real.
