Bernie Winter’s been trying her best to hold her family close lately, getting to know her grandson Brody and rebuilding bridges with her son Kit. Add to that her whirlwind romance with Dev, and you’d think she’s finally getting her happy-ever-after. But Coronation Street star Jane Hazlegrove has just hinted that things might not be as rosy as they look.
Bernie’s Been Busy Building Bridges
It wasn’t too long ago that Bernie found out about Kit being her long-lost son, and that revelation threw everything up in the air. Since then, the pair have made some progress, and things seemed to be going okay between them. But Kit’s a detective, and Bernie’s got a bit of a past. Jane admitted she doesn’t see it being smooth sailing.
And then there’s Brody, Bernie’s new grandson. She’s been quick to defend him, even though people around her aren’t so sure. Jane explained that Bernie sees something in Brody that others don’t. She thinks he’s just a lad who’s been through a rough time and that he’s got a softer side under all that toughness. Bernie’s even willing to stick her neck out for him, no matter what anyone says.
Coronation Street: Jane Drops a Warning About What’s Coming
When Jane was asked if things were finally settled between Bernie and Kit, she said she’d be surprised if it all went smoothly from here. She pointed out that Kit works by the book, and Bernie, well, definitely doesn’t. There’s a clash waiting to happen, and Jane said there’s still plenty they haven’t dealt with yet.
As for Brody, Jane didn’t sound entirely confident that Bernie’s support would pay off. Yes, Bernie sees good in him, but she might be the only one. That could put her at odds with her own family down the line. If Brody does something to mess things up, Bernie’s going to take the hit emotionally, and maybe even put some of her other relationships at risk too.
Bernie’s Got the Family She Wanted, But Can She Keep It?
Jane also talked about how far Bernie’s come. She said Bernie’s finally acting like the matriarch she always wanted to be. With Gemma, the quads, Kit, Brody, Asha, and Aadi all part of her extended crew, family is finally front and centre for her. The thing is, managing that many relationships takes work.
Jane admitted she doesn’t ask the bosses what’s coming next in the scripts, she likes the surprises. But she also hinted that we shouldn’t expect a smooth ride for Bernie. There’s too much history, too many clashing personalities, and some deep feelings still simmering just under the surface.
So while Bernie might look like she’s got it all sorted right now, Jane’s warning tells us otherwise. With Kit and Brody both needing very different things from her, and the wedding with Dev coming up, it sounds like Bernie’s about to hit a few bumps.
