Jodie Ramsay’s behaviour in Coronation Street has crossed from emotional manipulation into something far more dangerous. Her closeness with Carl Webster no longer looks accidental; it looks deliberate. But while the passion shocks David Platt, the real horror lies in why Jodie staged it in the first place.
Jodie Deliberately Targets David and Shona
Jodie has carried deep anger toward Shona ever since her sister left home as a teenage mum and escaped their troubled parents. Jodie stayed behind alone, and years later she watches Shona enjoy the settled life she always wanted; a house, a marriage, and stability.
Instead of healing, that gap turned into obsession. She has already started poisoning Shona emotionally by inventing a fake abusive relationship to gain sympathy.
Earlier that same day she had listened to a woman named Ellie describe the ordeal in detail, then repeated the story as if it were her own. The lie worked, and Shona began feeling protective toward her.
At the same time, Jodie began nudging David away from his wife. She asked him to watch a film with her because she “didn’t want to spend the evening alone,” carefully presenting vulnerability while quietly inserting herself into their marriage.
Carl Becomes Proof But Also A Weapon
Jodie soon pushes the plan further. After Bernie Winter snaps at her for serving Brian Packham the wrong toastie, Jodie notices tension involving newcomer Mal and starts thinking about how she can get revenge and create disruption around her.
Then comes the real shock. David returns home to find Jodie and Carl Webster in a state of undress together. The passion is undeniable, and that is exactly what Jodie intended him to see.
Furious, David throws Carl straight out of the house. Jodie, however, is secretly pleased. The moment forces David to react emotionally, planting jealousy, confusion, and guilt. The encounter was never about Carl; he was simply the evidence she needed to damage Shona’s marriage from the inside. Jodie does not want Carl, and she may not even truly want David. What she wants is to destroy Shona’s happiness piece by piece.
Actress Olivia Frances-Brown described the feeling as “total resentment,” explaining Jodie believes Shona abandoned her and broke a promise to take her to a better life. Seeing Shona living the life she dreamed of fuels her anger. She blames her sister for everything she lacks, and now she wants Shona to feel loss in return.
