Coronation Street has been on for decades, and just as it has some really loyal long-term fans, it also has several cast and crew that have been on the soap for the haul. Unfortunately, all good things eventually come to an end, and so has Jonathan Harvey’s journey on the ITV soap. The brilliant man has been a mainstay in Corrie’s writing team for 20 long years.
However, writer Jonathan Harvey is now ready to bow out of Coronation Street. He first joined the soap back in 2004 and has penned as many as 331 scripts to date as a Corrie writer. The phenomenal penman took to his social media account (X) to announce that the October 2, 2024, episode was his final script for the soap.
“My last episode of Corrie is on tonight,” Harry informed his followers on the social media platform. Furthermore, he explained that the first half of the episode was written by Jan McVerry, while he penned the second half. The episode in question is the same one that featured Paul Foreman’s heartbreaking funeral. The same day that was supposed to be his and Billy’s first wedding anniversary.
Although the writer has now bowed out of the soap, he did state in a following comment that he would be open to returning to Corrie at a later point in time. “I actually left five months ago but it’s shot so far in advance that it’s taken til now to air my last one! Needed a break after twenty years. Hopefully, I’ll be back,” Jonathan pointed.

Shortly after the post went live, many fans flocked to the comment section to express their shock and sadness that he was leaving. “Oh wow didn’t know you were leaving. Thanks for all the fabulous Carla writing over the years,” a fan expressed. Meanwhile, another hoped that the October 2, 2024, episode wouldn’t be his final one and that he would return to the soap in the future.
In complete honesty, we hope so too! In the meantime, we wish Jonathan Harvey all the best for whatever he chooses to do next. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street Spoilers and updates.
