Steven Arnold Looks Back At His Coronation Street Journey
Steven Arnold joined Coronation Street in 1995 as Ashley Peacock, the son of Fred Elliott. At first, it was meant to be a very small role. He went in for just one episode with only three lines. But things quickly changed. The writers gave him more lines, then more time on screen, and soon that short role turned into a 15-year run.
Ashley became a fan favourite over the years. However, his story ended in a shocking way during the soap’s 50th anniversary tram crash. His death left viewers emotional and made the moment unforgettable in Corrie history.
When Arnold looks back, he speaks warmly about his time on the show. He said one of his best memories was working with John Savident, who played his dad, Fred Elliott. He shared that Savident taught him how to act properly on set and how to bring real emotion into a character.
Arnold also said he still hears Savident’s advice even today when he teaches acting. He called him a father figure and said he misses him a lot. He explained that there wasn’t just one special moment; every day working with him felt special.
Strong Friendships Still Remain
Even though Arnold left the show 16 years ago, he still shares a bond with some of his former co-stars. He admitted he doesn’t speak to everyone often because life gets busy, but some connections are still strong.
He mentioned that Julia Haworth, who played his wife Claire, comes to watch his theatre shows every year and even brings the kids along. That support clearly means a lot to him.
Arnold also said that some members of the Corrie crew still come to see him perform. He finds it lovely that people from the show continue to support him even after so many years.
After leaving Coronation Street, Arnold moved away from TV and focused on theatre. He now performs on stage and also teaches acting, using everything he learned during his time on the soap. Fans may still hope for a return, but Arnold has made it clear that it won’t happen. He said he wouldn’t come back to play with Ashley again.
