Reason Behind the Major Exit
Maureen Lipman, who plays Evelyn Plummer, announced her exit earlier this year but also confirmed that it wouldn’t be a final exit—she would come back for a new story. One major reason behind this exit is her engagement with David Turner, whom she proposed to on a train journey. According to the actress, both have planned a gap year to enjoy life for a while.
As soon as her fans got the news, a common question buzzed around: Would her character be killed off on the show? We have seen many Corrie characters’ fates end on the same note, and we definitely didn’t want the same for Maureen. But she has also addressed the same issue, saying that she isn’t going to die in the show anytime soon. Viewers will see her on and off the show for a while until she resumes full-time.
Evelyn’s Exit Storyline
It was Roy Cropper who had set Evelyn’s exit story in motion when he suggested that she should pursue a law degree. Roy probably got the idea that she would be a formidable lawyer when she threatened to sue Steve McDonald. In fact, she also played a major role in the campaign to free up Roy when he was falsely accused of Lauren Bolton’s murder.
Evelyn seemed to take Roy’s advice very sportingly and applied for the course. However, Maureen couldn’t help but joke about it while talking to the press. Lipman even teased the probability of every student dressing like Evelyn at the university. She even joked and suggested a whole fun series on Evelyn’s university storyline.
In the upcoming episodes, we will see Evelyn fully engaged in her university course and caring for Tyrone’s daughters side by side. Eventually, she will also move into the student halls when she finally starts her degree. But before she goes away to the university, she will be enjoying farewell drinks at the Rovers with her friends. However, soon, Roy becomes emotional enough to bid his friend goodbye.
