Mal Roper’s disturbing behaviour on Coronation Street has finally caught up with him, and the consequences are devastating. Doctors are fighting to save him, while police have made a dramatic arrest that places Bernie Winter at the centre of the investigation.

Mal Roper Left Fighting For His Life After Brutal Attack

Tonight’s Coronation Street saw Mal Roper rushed to hospital after someone attacked him and left him unconscious on the pavement. Medical staff confirmed that he struck his head during the incident and suffered a cardiac arrest.

He remains in critical condition in intensive care. Mal has caused unrest since arriving in Weatherfield. He came searching for Roy Cropper, determined to confront him about letters Roy had written to his wife, Alice.

Roy shared his side of the story, and after listening, Mal went out drinking to drown his sorrows. During that night, he crossed paths with Bernie Winter. A drug-fuelled evening followed. Bernie immediately regretted her actions the next day, but Mal reacted very differently.

He became convinced that there was something significant between them and quickly developed an unhealthy fixation on her. Earlier this week, that fixation turned frightening when Mal cornered Bernie inside the café and declared his love.

Bernie Arrested As Investigation Takes A Dramatic Turn

In the latest episode, Kit received the task of investigating the attack on Mal. A visit to the hospital brought grim news. Mal was not simply injured, he was fighting for his life. A doctor explained that Mal had hit his head on the pavement and gone into cardiac arrest.

Bruising on his upper arms suggested that someone had grabbed him during a struggle. The injuries pointed clearly to a violent altercation rather than an accidental fall.

CS/ Mal to die?

News soon reached Kit that his new colleague had made a breakthrough in the case. Kit showed visible frustration at having to share responsibility for the investigation. His irritation quickly turned to disbelief when the officer arrested Bernie for the assault. Bernie’s situation looks increasingly serious considering her most recent clash with Mal. In the previous episode, Mal deliberately stood across the street in an attempt to intimidate her. He hurled cruel remarks about Bernie and about her son Paul Foreman, who died of MND just over a year ago.

Anger took over. Bernie refused to show fear and confronted him directly. She shouted at him and warned that she would kill him. The threat was loud and public, and now it forms a key part of the police case against her. Suspicion now hangs over Bernie as Mal remains in intensive care. Her public threat makes her look guilty, especially given the evidence of a physical struggle. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
