Watching Marc Baylis return to the soap has been a delight, but drama will follow. The Coronation Street star has spoken about how his character has changed since he last appeared on the soap seven years ago. The last time we saw him, he was an absolute fraud. But have things changed for him now? Let’s find out.
March Baylis Talks Returning To Coronation Street
Mark Baylis has made a stunning comeback to the cobbles after a stretch of seven years to reprise the role of Rob Donovan. In the Thursday episode, viewers saw him when Bobby Crawford goes to meet Rob in prison, he is initially surprised.
However, fans who have seen the episode would know, Bobby wasn’t visiting rob out of love, but he needs something. Bobby visited Rob in the prison to ask help saving Carla Connor‘s life. Upon being asked, Rob showed a bit of frustration when Bobby asked him to consider donating a kidney to his sister, Carla.
However, it looks like things will change in the coming week. Next week, when Bobby visits him the second time, he is surprised to know that Rob has changed his mind. Rob claimed that he found religion and says that he is now keen to save Carla’s life. But is it so? Talking about the storyline, Marc, who plays Rob, said, “Rob is a very different person. It’s been seven years since we last saw him. That’s a lot of life. It’s a lot of time to be in the prison system as well.”
Marc Commented On Rob’s Role
Additionally, the actor said that he’s not sure whether the character’s core nature has changed. So, we will have to wait and see. But he insisted that Rob has not had the easiest of times in prison, and staying in prison for so long has affected him. He added, “It’s not something he’s had an easy journey with, and he regrets how everything played out. We do get to see some of that on screen, as well as Rob’s genuine feelings.”
Later, Marc also hinted at a surprise for the fans as the frightening situation unfolds. As Rob and Bobby were talking, Matty Radcliffe threatened a prison guard with a knife. Seeing that, Bobby is horrified as he is stuck in a hostage situation. Talking about the situation, Mark said, “Bobby comes to visit, and there is an escalation of a situation that involves Matty Radcliffe, and all is not as it seems in the actual moment.”
The actor also added, “Rob doesn’t really want to see Bobby in turmoil or danger in any way, shape, or form. Whether he’s truly in danger is to be seen because something else is happening in the background at the same time, but what that is can’t be revealed until it unfolds on screen.” We are also excited to see how Rob Donovan’s character will unfold going forward. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily to see how it all will unfold in Coronation Street.
