After rising to fame as Kelly on Coronation Street and later in Doctor Who, Gibson is now stepping into a new world. She’s opened up about her newest character, a role set in a very different era. She also talked about how it pushed her to change almost everything, including her appearance. But what she admits this role made her realise about herself is something she never expected to say.

Life After Weatherfield and the TARDIS

Millie first captured attention on the cobbles as Kelly Neelan, a troubled teenager grappling with her father’s dark past. Her final Coronation Street chapter saw her confront Gary Windass after learning he had killed her father, Rick. Rather than turn him in, she chose her own freedom, leaving Weatherfield with a determination to become “just Kelly.”

Shortly after, she transitioned into Doctor Who as Ruby Sunday, she embarked on time-travelling adventures while searching for the truth. In Ncuti Gatwa’s final episodes, she helped the Doctor and new companion Belinda face a series of formidable foes. With Ruby’s journey now complete, Millie officially stepped away from the iconic role.

A Dramatic Turn in The Forsytes

Millie has now revealed that she is joining The Forsytes, a Channel 5 adaptation of John Galsworthy’s novels. The period drama delves into family power struggles, strained marriages and long-held secrets erupting within a privileged dynasty. Millie plays the ambitious wife of Soames Forsyte, where she’s drawn into a fierce conflict with cousin Jolyon.

The actress admitted that her transformation for the series is striking, both in character and appearance. She explained that she looks completely different in this role. She even added that her red hair and constant movement was a far cry from her Mancunian roots. Despite the physical and emotional demands, she said she loved embodying someone so unlike herself. She described the experience as “totally gruelling but totally worth it.”

She added that the opportunity came at a time when she needed it most. Seeing the cast lineup for the first time, she recalled being stunned by the calibre of talent surrounding her. Millie spoke warmly about working alongside Joshua Orpin, who plays her on-screen husband. She said that their time on set was genuinely special.
