As the New Year gets closer, Coronation Street is heading into an important week on the cobbles. With festive TV schedules changing and ongoing storylines still developing after Christmas, viewers need to keep track of when the soap is on and what lies ahead.

New Year TV Schedule As Ongoing Storylines Continue

During the festive period, TV schedules often change, and Coronation Street is no different. Viewers who usually tune in at the same time each evening may find the soap airing earlier or later than expected, which makes it easy to miss key moments.

Coronation Street will air on Monday, December 29, and Tuesday, December 30, from 8 to 8.30pm. The episodes will then be extended on Wednesday, December 31, Thursday, January 1, and Friday, January 2, with each airing from 8 to 9pm.

These episodes lead into a permanent change for ITV soaps. From Monday, January 5, Coronation Street will move to a 7.30pm slot on weeknights, following Emmerdale at 7pm. ITV has grouped the two shows together into what it calls a “soap power hour,” giving viewers back-to-back episodes every evening.

Becky and Abi’s Christmas Actions Continue Into The New Year

The New Year episodes continue directly from the dramatic Christmas week. Becky Swain managed to trap Carla Connor, leaving her gagged and tied up inside a cupboard. Carla attempted to escape but failed, which left Becky feeling confident that she had control of the situation. Becky believes she is finally winning her long-running battle with Carla over Lisa Swain. After stopping Carla’s escape attempt, Becky appeared to feel that nothing stood in her way.

Elsewhere, Abi Webster discovered that Carl, the man she had changed her life for, had been cheating on her with James Bailey. The realisation came as a shock, especially after Abi had already given up so much for the relationship. Instead of stepping away, Abi joined forces with Tracy Barlow. Together, they started talking about getting revenge, leaving viewers wondering how far Abi is prepared to go and whether her anger could push her into making serious mistakes.

Driscoll Family Fallout, A Wedding Ahead And The Corriedale Crossover

The Driscoll family situation also continues after Maggie Driscoll exposed Eva Price’s abortion secret during Christmas. The revelation led to a fight between Adam Barlow and Ben Driscoll. Maggie was thrown out at first but later welcomed back, though her actions suggest she has not changed. Maggie has also formed a closer connection with her grandson Will Driscoll.

Meanwhile, Debbie Webster and Ronnie Bailey are preparing to get married. However, long-time viewers know that weddings on Coronation Street rarely go smoothly, and problems could still appear before the ceremony takes place.

With schedule changes and several storylines still in progress, Coronation Street heads into the New Year with plenty still to watch on the cobbles. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for all the latest Coronation Street news and updates.
