Coronation Street has had viewers in a perfect chokehold with the thick cloud of suspense and mystery surrounding Joel Deering’s murder case. For a while there, it appeared as though Dee-Dee was the one responsible for the deed. Especially, after she confessed to smashing his head with a crowbar. But she insisted that she only hurt him and did not kill him. Later, the doubt shifted to Lisa Swain when her spray was found as evidence.
But, when has anything ever been that simple on Coronation Street? In a shocking turn of events, it was revealed that Max Turner was the one guilty of Joel Deering’s murder. In a recent episode, Carla recalled seeing Max and Lauren loading a big suitcase into a car, on the night of Joel’s murder. The couple had plans set in place to run away from Weatherfield with baby Frankie in tow. However, Lauren was stunned when Max suddenly disappeared and ended up turning himself in for the murder.
Later, Max Turner made a full confession to the police about what had exactly happened that night. He was subsequently charged with Joel Deering’s murder. “It was terrifying because all these people had done so much amazing work on the story, and I come in at the end and have all the final scenes to do,” Paddy Bever told Digital Spy. He also added that it was “nerve wrecking” to be able to match everything that had already been recorded. He hopes that his work won’t disappoint anyone.
The turn of events makes total sense because if you think about it, Max has been extremely protective of Lauren ever since Frankie was born. Paddy explains that part of the reason is because Max thinks Lauren is very similar to his mother – Kylie. “I think Max and Lauren have also experienced a similar trauma in terms of the fact that they were both radicalized into the far-right group and have a lot of shared experiences,” he added.
Perhaps this is why Max wanted to run away with Lauren. So that they could live a quiet and fulfilling life away from all the drama they have faced thus far. But is that dream dead, now that he is in prison? Well, never say never, has never been truer than in soaps. So, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street Spoilers to see what life has in store for Max and Lauren, as their story is far from over!
