What Is Jodie Hiding? Coronation Street Producer Teases Jodie’s Real Agenda

By Roy

Shona Platt has survived some serious storms on Coronation Street, but this one might hit closer to home than anything before. Just as she’s trying to focus on her newborn and hold her family together, a face from her past reappears and it’s clear straight away that this reunion won’t be warm or comforting. Shona’s sister Jodie is back in her life, and the secrets she’s carrying could change everything.

Shona’s Past Comes Back To Haunt Her

Coronation Street has confirmed that the mysterious newcomer causing unease is Jodie; Shona’s younger sister. Producer Kate Brooks has now spoken about the storyline, explaining that the show has referenced Shona having a sister before and that the time felt right to finally explore that side of her past. Jodie is played by Olivia Frances-Brown, and her introduction was anything but ordinary. Viewers first saw her tied up in the back of a van during the Corriedale crossover special, with the van being driven by Graham Foster from Emmerdale.

Since then, she’s crossed paths with Shona by chance and has quietly started hovering around the Platt family. Kate Brooks revealed that Shona and Jodie’s relationship is complicated and emotionally loaded. They’ve been estranged for years, and there’s a lot of resentment and unresolved history between them. Still, despite everything that’s gone wrong in the past, there’s a strong bond that hasn’t completely broken.

Jodie Isn’t As Innocent As She First Appears in Coronation Street

On the surface, Jodie may seem friendly enough. But Brooks made it clear that viewers shouldn’t take her at face value. She described Jodie as a layered character with a mischievous streak; someone who brings baggage and trouble with her wherever she goes. The timing couldn’t be worse for Shona and David Platt, who are still adjusting to life with baby Harper.

CS/ Jodie to play a game?

Upcoming spoilers reveal that Jodie quickly gets close to Bethany and Lily, slipping easily into the family dynamic. But while some are warming to her, Nick Platt isn’t buying it and remains openly wary of her motives.

Brooks teased that Jodie initially comes across as a lifesaver and becomes someone the Platts start to rely on. But underneath that helpful act, there’s a sense that Jodie has her own agenda. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
