Coronation Street fans will face another round of schedule changes as tonight’s episode has been pulled from its usual slot. In recent weeks, we have already seen changes due to live sports broadcasts, and this week is no different. But why the change this time, and how can viewers catch up?
Reason Behind Soap Not Airing
The disruption is due to ITV’s coverage of the UEFA Women’s Nations League. England’s Lionesses are up against Portugal’s women’s team tonight—which has taken priority over Coronation Street. However, this isn’t the first time live sports have affected the schedule, and it seems like the issue is becoming quite recurrent. To make sure fans don’t miss out, Coronation Street aired from Monday to Wednesday this week.
While we can’t do anything about the abrupt schedule change, we have thoroughly enjoyed the dramatic week. Rob Donovan faced a life-or-death situation after being attacked and left for dead following his prison escape. He was pushed down the stairs by his sister, Carla Connor before making a run for it—which has left the police on high-alert. Right now, we don’t know what happens next. The good news, however, is that Coronation Street will return to its regular schedule at the start of next week—with episodes airing at 8 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday.
However, instead of the usual Friday episode, viewers will need to tune in at 9 p.m. on Thursday. This change is due to an FA Cup football match between Aston Villa and Cardiff City, as they are taking over the Friday slot. ITV also announced that from next year, both Coronation Street and Emmerdale will move to 30-minute episodes. This will reduce the number of weekly episodes but aims to match current viewing habits better. How the audience will react to it is yet to be found in the upcoming Coronation Street spoilers. Until then, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more updates.
