Tensions ran high at Roy’s cafe in Coronation Street when an argument between Lauren Bolton and Betsy Swain took a messy turn. With Lauren already under pressure and Roy caught in the middle, Carla Connor walked in at exactly the wrong moment, only to be faced with a situation she hadn’t planned for.
Cafe Trouble Leads to Greater Issues
Lauren Bolton knows nothing of easy times, and tonight she appeared to be approaching breaking point. Following a day of struggling to secure a job that she could use to support baby Frankie, who has just been discharged from hospital, Lauren encountered yet another brick wall when Betsy Swain turned up with allegations.
Betsy didn’t hesitate in confronting Lauren about the cash she’d taken from Bobby Crawford. She blamed Lauren for spending Bobby’s money on a flat deposit, which Lauren did confess to but vowed to repay. Betsy wasn’t listening, however, and the row escalated.
Attempting to have the final say, Lauren seized a ketchup bottle and threw it at Betsy—but poor Roy Cropper got splattered instead. Just in time, Carla Connor appeared on the scene, clearly not impressed.
Carla, with two businesses struggling for staff, complained about not having time to tidy up after other folk’s messes. But what then altered the atmosphere completely.
Coronation Street: Roy Makes a Plea Carla Can’t Ignore
While Carla assisted Roy in wiping away the ketchup, he caught her off guard with a sincere plea. Noticing how desperate Lauren was and realizing how short-handed the Rovers were, Roy asked Carla if she could give Lauren a job at the pub.
He did not argue or pressure, only made a softly spoken, heartfelt request that only Roy could. And as promised, Carla came around. She consented to give Lauren a trial basis—agreed.
Soon, Lauren was behind the Rovers pulling pints. Her first session resulted in a steep learning curve, and Glenda Shuttleworth gave her close supervision. Glenda, who was now in charge behind the bar, had strong views on how things should be done.
Despite a few hiccups, including accidentally soaking Glenda with beer, Lauren got through her first shift. In fact, she did more than survive it. Glenda seemed pleased with how she handled herself and hinted she might actually be a good fit.
With all the drama over, she now has a chance to turn things around, not only for herself, but for Frankie as well. But there still remain several questions: will Carla make the position full-time? And will Lauren be able to fulfil her promise to Bobby regarding repayment? Only time will reveal.
