Coronation Street might be packed with plot twists on-screen, but the real world has served up some drama of its own. The soap’s team has just issued a fresh statement that fans shouldn’t ignore. And if you thought the last scam was bad, you’ll want to pay close attention to what’s happening now.
Soap Stars Were Being Impersonated
Earlier this year, Coronation Street and Emmerdale both issued a joint warning on social media platform X (formerly Twitter). At the time, scammers had been impersonating cast members, messaging fans directly and asking for money in exchange for personal messages, video chats, or meetups. In response, the shows released a clear statement: no actor from either soap will ever request money or offer personal contact via social media.
Moreover, the scams had become increasingly convincing. Some messages included deepfake videos, clips that looked like actual cast members speaking to fans. Others stayed completely in character, making the impersonations even harder to detect. As a result, fans were advised to report any suspicious activity immediately.
The Coronation Street Scam Has Taken a New Direction
However, just when it seemed the issue had died down, a new version of the scam surfaced. This week, Coronation Street issued another alert, this time revealing that scammers are now pretending to be from the show’s casting department. In a fresh post on the Corrie X account, the team said, “We are aware that there are some accounts impersonating the Casting department at Coronation Street on social media platforms.”
To prevent further confusion, they clarified that the Casting team does not use direct messages on any platform. Instead, they only contact people through official and verified communication methods. Once again, the statement closed with a warning, fans should remain cautious when interacting online and report any suspicious accounts.
A Soap Crossover Is Coming Soon
While that’s the serious side of things, there’s also big news ahead for soap fans. Earlier this year, ITV confirmed a major first, Coronation Street and Emmerdale will take part in a special crossover episode in early 2026.
This one-off event will coincide with a new broadcast schedule, where both soaps will air back-to-back in a “power hour” slot from 8pm, Monday to Friday. As part of the change, each show will drop one half-hour episode per week.
While the team works to protect fans off-screen, they’re also planning a major moment on-screen. As always, caution online is key but so is keeping an eye on what’s coming next. For the latest updates from Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and beyond, stay with Soap Opera Daily.
