Coronation Street is one of the most iconic soaps in the UK. The sudser has been on air for several decades and has a large and loyal fanbase. One of the most prominent things that keep fans hooked on a show for multiple decades is a sense of familiarity. While many would think that it comes only from the characters, but the people only make one-half of the soap.
The other half is created by the sets, that is what creates a home, a living space for the characters. Over the years, Coronation Street has moved its sets several times. When the soap first started, it was based at Quay Street close to the heart of Manchester City Centre. Corrie filmed there for 53 long years.
After that, the soap moved to MediaCityUK in nearby Salford, right beside several other thriving TV studios, including their rival channel BBC. CS officially moved from their OG filming site in 2013, and in early 2014, it was converted into a guided tour experience for soap enthusiasts.
Recently, some images from the site have surfaced online, and passionate Corrie fans managed to spot several of the soap’s establishments in the photos- including the homes of The Bistro and the Weatherfield Medical Centre. These establishments appear to be rather unchanged from their original forms.
Even though the site has now turned into Manchester Studios, Nick Tilsley’s former Bistro site is still evident. This can be clearly seen as the restaurant’s main door has been retained, and now serves as the main door for the studio. The other end of Corrie Street still houses the unchanged medical center along with the iconic green lamppost.
Coronation Street Teases Shocking Death As An Iconic Character Exits
Long-term fans are clearly delighted that so many of the soap’s elements have been preserved on the site that boasts of so much history. However, it is indeed a bittersweet discovery, because the iconic cobbles are gone! “I feel so sad whenever I see pictures from Quay Street. Should never have been demolished,” an emotional fan wrote online.
In complete honesty, we understand their sentiments, it is truly difficult to see beloved pieces of history vanish into thin air. But then, this is just the progression of life. As the popular saying goes – The show must go on! So, stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers and updates.
