Coronation Street viewers recently watched Shona Platt face another emotional storyline on the cobbles, leaving many wondering how her future might unfold in Weatherfield.
The character continues to deal with intense drama on screen, yet the actress who plays her leads a very different life away from the ITV soap. Julia Goulding shares her home life with husband Ben Silver, and their romance began at remarkable speed after both realised almost immediately that they had found the person they wanted to marry.
Julia Goulding’s Dramatic Journey On Coronation Street
Goulding first appeared on Coronation Street in 2016 when she stepped into the role of Shona Platt. Since then, the character has played a major part in several gripping storylines in Weatherfield.
Over the years, Shona survived a devastating brain injury and endured a terrifying moment when her own son tried to murder her, leaving viewers stunned. More recently, another emotional storyline unfolded involving Shona and her husband David Platt. Their newborn daughter suddenly needed surgery after doctors discovered a cancerous tumour on the baby’s neck.

As a result, the situation created enormous worry for the family and left fans fearing a heartbreaking outcome. However, relief finally arrived during the episode that aired on Wednesday, March 4.
During the emotional instalment, viewers learned that the life saving operation had been successful. The news brought hope after days of tension for the Platts and gave audiences a moment of reassurance.
The Whirlwind Romance Julia Knew Would Lead To Marriage
Away from the drama of Weatherfield, Julia shares her life with husband Ben Silver, an educator who prefers to stay away from the spotlight. Their relationship began around 2015 and quickly developed into a strong connection that surprised even them.
Ben later revealed that their early days together moved incredibly fast. Speaking to OK!, he explained that the pair spent almost every moment together during their first week. According to him, the experience felt ridiculous because everything happened at “100 miles an hour.” By the end of that very first week, he told Julia that he loved her.

Meanwhile, Julia admitted that she felt the same certainty. She revealed that she told Ben she would marry him just one week after their first date. Eventually, the couple proved that instinct right when they married in 2018 at Manchester’s Albert Hall after a ten month engagement that they managed to keep secret. Many of Julia’s Coronation Street co stars attended the celebration, including Jack P. Shepherd, Tina O’Brien and former Corrie actress Lucy Fallon.
The wedding celebration itself also created plenty of memorable moments. Julia later recalled that the reception became quite lively as the evening progressed. At one point, Tina O’Brien attempted a Dirty Dancing-style lift with her friend Kylie while Lucy Fallon shouted “Mum, no, don’t!” during the commotion. Julia said the scene turned into total carnage by the end of the night, yet she described the celebration as brilliant and added that everyone eventually let their hair down. Not long after their wedding, the couple entered a new chapter together as their family began to grow. For more such Coronation Street Spoilers, keep following Soap Opera Daily!
