Elle Mulvaney Reveals Behind-the-Scenes Reality
Amy Barlow, played by Elle Mulvaney, has been persuaded into the creepy cult known as The Institute. In the upcoming week, Leanne Battersby is determined to have Amy go through a ‘malware’ session, but Amy is in for a shocking surprise as it’s nothing like she thought it would be.
She wears a blindfold while a crowd hurls insults at her, all based on personal confessions she made to Rowan in what she believed was a private moment. Despite Leanne’s promises that it will all be worth it eventually, Amy is overwhelmed and bolts from the scene.
Elle revealed that these intense scenes have deeply impacted her as an actor. She admitted that she was stunned when she first saw the script, not expecting it to be so ‘extreme.’ She explained that Amy arrived at the scene without knowing what it would involve.
Amy was only informed that it was a ‘malware session,’ a term she doesn’t understand. Whenever Amy tried to ask for an explanation, no one provided an answer, as they believed that if she knew what it entailed, she wouldn’t participate. The soap said, “I’ve never filmed anything like it. It was a really surreal experience.”
She chose not to wear the blindfold until the actual take to enhance the sense of discomfort. Mulvaney explained that if she wore it too often, she might become too comfortable and lose the initial feeling. Even the rehearsals felt odd, as walking into a room and standing in the middle of a circle was unnatural.
When they filmed the scene, she put on a blindfold and ended up crying like Amy. She highlighted, “ It felt really real because you feel so disoriented. You don’t know where you are, you don’t recognise the voices.” She explained that Rowan manipulates people like Amy by making them feel uncomfortable, so they become dependent on him.
He intentionally breaks people down to rebuild them according to his own agenda. However, this time, Tracy intervenes and promises to take Rowan down. According to the ITV star, her character’s mother is not someone to be underestimated.
