Evelyn Plummer is set to suffer a major setback per the latest Coronation Street spoilers. As we already know, Maureen Lipman, who plays Evelyn, is due for a break from the soap. Once she returns, she won’t be in the full-time role as of now – and it seems like the new episodes have started to lay the foundation for that. We see her confiding in Roy about how her life seems to lack purpose – and the next minute, she is faking a solicitor’s letter. It’s hard to tell how the upcoming plots will unfold.
Evelyn’s Law Dream to Take a Nosedive?
As Roy Cropper suggested, we see Evelyn taking the initiative to enter a law university. She does everything—fills out an application online and even attends a lecture at the Chariot Street Hotel, which Alya invited her to. But when she got to the meet-and-greet table, she stole someone else’s name badge because she wanted to attend the lecture. Later, she even goes for an interview but gets a major surprise that shocks her.
Just when Evelyn was excited to pursue her career, there came a roadblock: she met Marjorie Tavistock face-to-face. Marjorie is the woman Evelyn recently clashed with and impersonated at a law lecture. Now the big question is – does Marjorie know that Evelyn stole her name batch? Will her dream of law university never see the light again because of this?
What Maureen Had to Say?
Talking to the Sun regarding her exit plot, Maureen said, “I’ll be absent for a while and then coming back. I’m not going to die, but then I’ll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life. (fiancé) David and I are thinking of having a bit of a gap year.” She added, “Roy sees potential in Evelyn, he sees that she’s more than just a pretty face. But he’s sort of the architect of what happens to me over the next few months. The best thing that could happen is a series about Evelyn going to university. Can you imagine if all the students start dressing like Evelyn?”
It seems like Maureen is going to use the gap year for other than romance with her would-be, David. She also added that she’s waiting to see “what’s out there” in regards to other roles: “There’s got to be something that Lesley Manville, Brenda Blethyn and Harriet Walters don’t play that I could do.” It will be interesting to see her cast in other roles – but we will wait eagerly for how Evelyn’s law study plans move ahead.
