As per the recent Coronation Street spoilers, renowned star Maureen Lipman has confirmed that she will be taking a step back as a full-time cast member from the ITV soap. She will still be there in the show, but we won’t see her that often. But why is she taking this break all of a sudden?
A New Chapter for Maureen
The actor, popularly known as Evelyn in Coronation Street, has played the role of Tyrone Dobbs’ grandmother since 2018. She has been in the show for a long time now, and now, she has decided to take a short break.
She explained to The Sun why she wanted to spend more time with her better half, David Turner. Recently, Maureen proposed to him, and the couple got engaged—and there couldn’t be a better time for them to spend quality time together.
Maureen’s Storyline
Maureen’s storyline has also been similarly adjusted, keeping her break in mind. She will soon be accepted for a university course, where we will see her studying law. Maureen added, “I’ll be absent for a while and then coming back,” she said.
She added, “I’m not going to die, but then I’ll be in and out of it because I want to have a bit of a life. David and I are thinking of having a bit of a gap year.”
However, Roy Cropper plays a major role here, and Lipman states: “Roy sees potential in Evelyn; he sees that she’s more than just a pretty face. But he’s sort of the architect of what happens to me over the next few months.”
What’s Next for Her
Maureen also revealed that there might be a spin-off at the university focusing on Evelyn. She added that she intends to try out some new roles when she is not a full-time Corrie member.
