When Lauren went to prison, we all thought it was the end of her—but Coronation Street spoilers suggest that we couldn’t be more wrong. Joel Deering’s parents, Gus and Anthea, arrive in Weatherfield to invite Dee Dee Bailey to the memorial. But Cait reveals that there might be more to their arrival than just the invite—so, how will their arrival impact Lauren and her baby?
Gus and Anthea Will Shake Things Up
Gus and Anthea have come to the cobbles to invite Dee-Dee to Joel’s birthday memorial, but they suddenly run into Max Turner with Frankie in the pram. Once they discover that baby Frankie is Joel’s son, they run to the solicitor to learn about their access.
Max, out of politeness, takes them to his house and asks them to spend time with baby Frankie – but when he comes back, he sees them gone. Even though Max doesn’t suspect initially, the suspicion grows when they find bruises on baby Frankie’s body. Did Gus or Anthea try to hurt their own grandson?
Lauren’s Instincts Are On
Cait, who plays Lauren on-screen, says that her reaction to the arrival news of Joel’s parents was only hate. She adds, “I don’t think anyone is born evil or a killer, so I think Lauren Bolton blames Joel’s parents. To Gus and Anthea, Joel was that little boy who could do no wrong in their eyes, and that really frustrated Lauren because they couldn’t see the monster they had created.”
“That’s where I think Joel and Lauren are quite similar because they both haven’t had great models to look up to in life. For Gus, let’s just say that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree because they are so similar in their mannerisms and will look down on people. Gus is in law too, so he knows how to work it.” Cait also added that Lauren finds being around Gus “really triggering” as “all she can see is Joel.”
Will Lauren Fight for Survival?
Lauren’s fight for survival is going to be much harder now, with Gus and Anthea having both the money and power to win against her. And with Joel not around, they will do anything to bring her down and take the baby away.
Cait added that this storyline will now show us “another side to Lauren” as her natural instincts to protect the baby place her “in full mother mode as well as survival mode… not just for herself anymore, but her son”.
Lauren and Max are Panicked
In the later scenes, the bruises on Frankie’s body become prominent and the first thought Lauren has is about Gus and Anthea. She believes maybe they tried to harm the baby to take custody.
“Instantly, Lauren thinks Gus and Anthea have done something to set her up,” Cait said. “She can’t even think rationally because she just thinks something sinister has happened so that Lauren will lose Frankie forever.” Additionally, she said, “Lauren’s looking for someone to blame, and I think Max will get the brunt of it because he should never have taken his eyes off of Frankie for even a second when Gus and Anthea were visiting him.”
However, in the upcoming Coronation Street spoilers, we might see things taking a sharp turn that will leave Lauren shocked and heartbroken forever. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily to find out what it turns out to be!
